Music was Edna's first love.

She began playing the piano when she was 8 years old but singing was where she excelled. She had singing lessons from a lady called Mrs Kimberley (whose husband was a talented artist) from the age of 20 for around sixteen years.

In the 1941 she was invited to join the Bourneville Grand Opera Society and stayed for fifty one years. She was, at various times, social secretary, wardrobe mistress and sang a few principal roles.

When she retired Edna joined the Selly Oak Ladies Choir. Edna, a tenor and a pianist also entertained local societies by singing. She did this until she was 86 years old. There was one afternoon when she tripped and fell on stage but carried on regardless. She said "It was a song where I had to act drunk, so I think I got away with it".

Home was always full of music. Edna loved singing and would sing The Amen Chorus from Handel's Messiah as a lullaby.
