Edna met Leonard Badland at a New Year's Eve dance in 1946. She wrote 'This fellow asked me to dance. It was a Tango, I said I couldn't Tango and he said "Try" so I did. Later there was a Paul Jones - the men form a circle and move left, the ladies circle on the outside and move right. After three times dancing with this fellow I asked him if he was cheating and he said "Yes". He asked me to go out with him and I said yes to shut him up. It started to snow and I wasn't going to go on the date but mother said "If you're not going go and tell him" so I went.

He proposed to me in early March and I kept him waiting three weeks for an answer. We got engaged on Easter Saturday and married in September.'

All their courting was done during the long, hard winter of 46/47.

They married at St Agnes Church Cotteridge in September 1946.
